Facebook creates "Culture of Respect"

At the White House Conference for Bullying Prevention on Thursday, Facebook announced it's newest set of tools to protect users from online bullying.

The new content includes more advanced tools for "reporting offensive or bullying content," and an improved safety center. Users have the choice to include trusted sources if he or she reports offensive subject matter.

Do you think this will help reduce cyber-bullying?

Viral Videos

I came across this video through Twitter. It's for SmartWater and I was surprised to know that this video was only uploaded on the 7th of March and already has over 3 million views. What's also interesting about it is that it addresses the very issue of what makes videos go viral.

Anyways, you can watch it here.

So, why do you think this video reached this amount of views so quickly?

Shout out to terrible Twitter use...

We've discussed a lot how to use, and how not to use Twitter, and this little customer service episode, brought to us by United Airlines, shows what a terrible job they're doing utilizing Twitter for their customer interactions and service. They've probably lost a frequent customer here, which could have easily been prevented.
I was also very surprised that this happened to an airline because we've already seen several cases of airlines using Twitter effectively and ineffectively - which should have been enough of a warning to prompt every airline to begin using Twitter seriously. Should have. But United Airlines has apparently missed the boat (or plane). I suggest they rethink their Twitter strategy and include responding to negative tweets as well as positive ones.

Social Media Strategy in 7 Steps

David Spark, a tech journalist, offers us this 7-step plan to creating a social media strategy. I think this quick guide is great because it is simple, it is a great jumping-off point for organizations with no social media presence and it discusses integration with other marketing and branding efforts. I particularly like steps 3 and 4 because they speak to the importance of producing relevant content and keeping up with the fast pace of social media.
