TED, an organization that puts on short talks from important modern thinkers, announced their new Quora-like platform today. According to the article, “TED Conversations” will be a question and answer forum similar to Stack Overflow or Quora, but with a few important differences. Conversations will take three forums: questions, ideas and debates. They’ll also be assigned an expiration date between one day and two weeks from their start.
This could definitely be a way that the Quora model could succeed. As long as TED has a dedicated team of experts willing to answer questions, they may have found the answer to successful Quora-like system.

I think this is an interesting idea that I would definitely check out when it launches. I've found TEDTalks to be pretty powerful on a range of topics. I'm not sure I understand the benefit of the expiration date is though. It's also a little unclear from the article about whether or not the content would still be viewable, but people just wouldn't be able to contribute to it? I did Quora for my immersion project, so I think TED's twist on the concept could be valuable.
What's cool about this is that unlike Quora, TED already has a dedicated fan base. I don't know anyone who doesn't like what they're doing there, and for that reason I could see this taking off.
I think it is great TED has launched a platform for in-depth conversation among diverse audience. I think it is a great tool for sharing ideas, especially if it involves international audience. It is really nice that their conversation have a time limit , which ensures the conversations you read are always sharp and up to date.
